Después de 30 años de investigación científica, podemos concluir que sólo los parámetros fisiológicos "tradicionales / anticuados " (VO2max, umbral anaeróbico) han sido medidos y analizados a gran escala. Sólo existen algunos datos disponibles sobre el CE de carrera o de la eficiencia de ciclismo en triatletas. Casi nada se ha publicado sobre la capacidad anaeróbica en ciclismo o sobre la cinética del VO2. Muy poco se sabe con respecto al contenido del entrenamiento. Las investigaciones sobre la magnitud las lesiones y sobre los factores de riesgo para las lesiones en triatletas LD y OD, aún están en pañales (Vleck, 2010).
La Unión Internacional de Triatlón podría tomar una actitud proactiva para iniciar una evaluación longitudinal en triatletas de élite. Esto sería obviamente de gran ayuda para entrenadores y científicos. Los datos recolectados también podrían complementar los datos que se obtienen para el "pasaporte sanguíneo/biológico" y podrían representar el primer paso hacia un " pasaporte fisiológico".
